Description of the processing operation
The platform euandi2021 is a public and politically completely independent party profiling website accessible at: https://euandi2019.eui.eu/de/deutschland2021.html (German version) and https://euandi2019.eui.eu/en/deutschland2021.html (English version). It aims to provide a service for voters for the German Federal elections 2021 by improving transparency of party positions.
The European University Institute (EUI) in Florence has developed euandi2021 in cooperation with the University of München (Germany). Euandi2021 is an online database designed for people who want to find out more about the political profiles of parties in Germany. The tool is based on 35 statements regarding relevant issues in view of the 2021 German Federal elections, covering a wide range of contemporary policy issues and political values in German politics.
Users will be asked to position themselves on the 35 statements. An algorithm then compares their positions with the positions of the most important political parties running in the German elections, providing the users with a personalised voting advice that shows their overlap with the political offer.
At the end of the matching exercise, the user will be asked if the data can be used for academic research purposes. The user then has to give his/her explicit agreement for this data to be used for academic research purposes. If they do so, they are asked to provide sociodemographic information (gender, age, education) and party preferences (which party do they consider voting for, and which parties they would not vote for).
The European University Institute in Florence is the owner of the websites https://euandi2019.eui.eu/de/deutschland2021.html and https://euandi2019.eui.eu/en/deutschland2021.html. The EUI aims to provide correct information at the time of publishing, but does not guarantee completeness and accuracy as regards content, nor actuality or reliability of the information.
Personal data will be collected and further processed for the purposes detailed below. The relevant data processing operations are under the responsibility of the Director of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies acting as the Data Controller.
The EUI’s Data Protection Policy (available under the following link: https://www.eui.eu/About/DataProtection) applies to those operations.

What personal information do we collect, for what purpose, and through which technical means?
During the user session on the website https://euandi2019.eui.eu/de/deutschland2021.html or https://euandi2019.eui.eu/en/deutschland2021.html, the webserver will automatically store information on the date and time of the user session. No other information, e.g. the browser type used, the operating system, the IP address will be stored at all. Further information on the storage of internet log information can be found at: https://www.eui.eu/AboutTheWebsite/Cookies
The application will also store the answers to the 35 political statements. If the user agrees to participate in the academic research activity, the user will be asked to provide further information about age, sex, educational background and political preferences about parties. Also this data will be stored. No data will be collected which could enable an identification of the user providing the data.
Internet log information and the data collected for academic research will never be stored together. As a result, the user having provided the data which is collected for academic research cannot be identified, there is no link between user (session) and data collected for academic purpose.

Who has access to your information and to whom is it disclosed?
Personal data may be collected only by the EUI services and units involved in the activity.
Data collected for academic research will be processed by the academic team responsible for the Voting Advice Application, including Dr. Lorenzo Cicchi (EUI). The data will eventually be made available in an open data repository for further analysis.

How do we protect and safeguard your information?
All personal data collected are internally processed only by designated EUI staff members or agents and stored on servers, which abide by the EUI’s security rules and standards.
In case an external contractor assists in the activity, the collected personal data and all information related to the event is stored on a computer of the external processor, who has to abide by the same rules as the others designated EUI staff members and agents.
